Dentist

For community helpers week i devote one day to Dentists. We have a dental hygienist come into our class to speak to us about brushing our teeth. She brought a cute little puppet to teach us how to brush our teeth, taught us all about little cavity bugs, showed a video about a dinosaur visiting the dentist for the first time and even gave out little goodie bags!
After we played dentist in our dramatic play area. It is pretty easy to switch your doctor's center into a dentist center. We used all of our regular doctor equipment, as well as toothbrushes from our art center and then i brought in empty toothpaste's and mouthwashes. I downloaded some teeth x-rays from online to tape to our table. Added some mirrors from our dress up center. I downloaded a dentist checklist from http://www.makinglearningfun.com and finally gave the kids some of our latex gloves to wear.

We also practiced brushing our teeth in the art center, by using white paint (with a splash of toothpaste to make it smell good) with toothbrushes!

We also made apple smiles in the science area.

Ingredients
  • smooth peanut butter (since we are peanut free...we used marshmallow fluff dyed pink for the kids without allergies and Kroger brand frosting dyed pink for our allergy kids)
  • 1 red apple, cored and sliced into eighths
  • miniature marshmallows
Directions
  1. Spread peanut butter on one side of each apple slice
  2. Place four miniature marshmallows on one apple slice and then lay another apple slice, peanut butter side down, on top.
